Day 6 – Day by Day

John 20:30-31 AMP

There are also many other signs (attesting miracles) that Jesus performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these have been written so that you may believe [with a deep, abiding trust] that Jesus is the Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed), the Son of God; and that by believing [and trusting in and relying on Him] you may have life in His name.

I’ve recently become the owner of some lovely plants. It’s been an adventure because a few years ago I tried to be a plant guy… but it didn’t go too well. Let’s just say they didn’t survive very long.

This time I have made it my mission to keep them alive, cared for and healthy. My previous plants didn’t thrive because I wasn’t maintaining them daily. I’ve realized that if I want these plants to grow and thrive, I need to tend to them daily. Sometimes that looks like watering, sometimes pruning, sometimes shifting but always prioritizing time to tend to them.

When it comes to growing in faith it’s a lot like the commitment to growing/tending to plants.

John 20:30-31 tells us that there is a reason the Bible exists. God preserved His Word in the Bible so that it could guide us and help our faith grow. Our faith starts to grow when we plant the ideas and promises of God as seeds in our hearts. Plant the truth about what God is like and how His love results in all the marvellous things around us. Just as water and fertilizers nourish plants, the Word nourishes our faith.

Growing in our faith is a daily commitment. When we do this, it waters our soul. It nourishes us and grows us spiritually. Like plants need watering and tending to, our soul also needs that same commitment.

Romans 10:17 says “So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ”.

This isn’t just about the literal listening to the word but its speaking to the knowing it in a way that leads our life. Day by day, as we commit to His word and letting it nourish and refresh us, I believe our faith will grow in new and incredible ways.

Response - Act

Today prioritize a moment that you’ll spend reading the word and pray that the holy spirit will reveal the truth of what the scriptures says.

Practical Tip - Pick a time and place you will spend time reading. Maybe it’s in your kitchen as you wake up, your office before bed, or maybe you like to read it when out at the park. A great way to build healthy habits is to pick a good time and place.
