Day 1 – Is Anything Too Hard for God?
Jeremiah 32:17
“O Sovereign Lord! You made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!
Jeremiah 32:27
“I am the Lord, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?
Genesis 18:14
“Is anything too hard for the Lord?
There is something about seeing the marvels of nature that is so awe-inspiring, you cannot help but feel dwarfed by your place and insignificance in the universe. A few years ago, I did something I never thought I would do – I went scuba diving. It was an incredible experience, made more so by the location. We had the opportunity to scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef, one of the natural wonders of the world. It was more spectacular than my expectations had prepared me for. Whenever I consider the wonder and majesty of nature, I am amazed afresh at the sheer power of God.
Jeremiah’s prayer in chapter 32 declares that he understands nothing is too hard for God, especially when he considers the heavens and the earth. I love that God gives us a daily reminder of his power in creation. If you ever doubt God’s ability to answer your prayers, forgive your sins or fulfil His promises to you, take a moment to consider the wonder of natur
Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote:
“Earth's crammed with heaven, And every common bush afire with God: But only he who sees, takes off his shoes”
Jeremiah had a similar revelation in his prayer and God responds in verse 27: “Is anything too hard for me?” God was not asking a question of Jeremiah that He did not already know the answer to. In fact, God is taking a moment to teach Jeremiah here, using a technique that we call the Socratic method. This is where the teacher asks the student questions to get them to think deeply about the topic they are learning. So, Jeremiah begins his conversation with God declaring that “nothing is too hard for you”, but as he contemplates his situation, he begins to waver. And God responds with an invitation to draw closer, to learn and to reflect: “Is anything too hard for me?” God has been asking this question for millennia – it was a question He asked Abraham, Mary, Job and the disciples. And He is asking us today to consider once again, as we look around our incredible world, “is anything too hard for the Lord?”
Family Discussion Questions
1. What is your favourite place or experience in nature? Why do you like it?
2. How do you feel when you see God’s glory in nature (maybe a big mountain, the ocean or huge forest?
3. Knowing that God has created so many wonderful things in our world, how does that change the way you pray to Him?)
Response – Reflect & Pray
Think of some areas in your life you have previously considered ‘too hard” for God to work in? Find a promise in the bible that corresponds to this area and commit this to God afresh, for His will to be done in your life.
